Interview Coaching

Job interviews cause many people to feel anxious.  This can happen in any situation where we feel we are being evaluated and have potential to lose, or fail, and an interview can feel like that. Especially if it’s a job we really want or need.

I’ve learned from interviewing over a thousand people across different industries, levels, and roles that the issue for most people isn’t a lack of knowledge or preparation. Most of us know a lot about what we do. The challenge is our stress response to the situation. When we feel like we’re under a microscope the pressure causes us to overthink, lose focus, become self-conscious. We may either go blank or ramble. We try too hard to sound polished and end up sounding rehearsed and inauthentic.

Great interviews aren’t about perfection. They’re about presence, connection, clarity, and the ability to stay calm and focused under pressure. Presenting yourself with a good balance of confidence along with humility is appealing to interviewers. It requires being grounded in knowing what you know, being honest about what you don’t, and showing up as a capable, proven professional.

Interviews are conversations. When we shift our focus from ourselves – our nervousness, our wants, to the other person and what they need, the conversation feels less pressured. Connection comes more naturally. You become more accessible and you make a better impression.

All of this can be achieved.

What We’ll Work on Together:

Building genuine confidence — get grounded in your knowledge, so you can stay calm under pressure and show up as the capable professional you are
Reframing the interview — get from a “test I might fail” to a “conversation I can actually enjoy” mindset
Communicating naturally and effectively — answer questions concisely and completely without rambling or sounding scripted
Listening and connecting — shift your focus from your internal worries to the interviewer’s needs so the conversation flows naturally
Telling your career story with relevance and clarity — clarify what’s important for the interviewer to know about you, especially if you’re making a pivot, changing industries, or returning after time away
